Woodhaven Demographics

In order to better understand the needs of the residents of the Woodhaven study area, the planning team examined several types of demographic data including race and ethnicity, housing tenure, household composition, income, and poverty level.

According to the 2000 U.S. Census, 11,006 people live in the Woodhaven planning area. The dominant racial groups are "Black/ African American" and "White." Compared with Tarrant County as a whole, Woodhaven has a greater proportion of "Black/African American" and a lower porportion of "White," "Other," and those that are "More than one race." Woodhaven also has a lower proportion of "Hispanic/Latino" residents than Tarrant County.

Housing information from the 2000 U.S. Census shows that the percentage of renter-occupied housing in Woodhaven is more than twice that of Tarrant County. This figure is not a surprise considering the over supply of apartment units in Woodhaven.

Other household information shows a greater percentage of single male and single female households and fewer married or married with children households than the rest of Tarrant County. This is most likely the result of the abundance of one-bedroom apartments and the lack of community facilities and family-friendly amenities. One notable household figure is that the Woodhaven Neighborhood has more than twice the number of single mother households than the rest of Tarrant County, which illustrates a need for family related services such as child care and after school programs.
